UoA SB team places second in the world in IEEEXtreme

Congratulations to Team Tlura Quefrency, comprising University of Auckland Student Branch members Ronald Chan, Tapio Saarinen and Ralph Versteegen, who placed second in the world in the IEEEXtreme 24-hour programming competition!

Ronald, Tapio and Ralph were one of just ten teams to solve all seventeen problems in the competition.  Teams were then ranked on the basis of the sum of submit times for each problem and the number of incorrect submissions.  The result puts them at the top of Region 10 (Asia-Pacific).  (The winning team was from the Region 8 (Europe-Middle East-Africa).)

Fourteen teams from the University of Auckland Student Branch were among over 900 internationally to battle it out in an intense programming competition on Labour weekend, from 1 p.m. Saturday 23 October to 1 p.m. Sunday 24 October (New Zealand Daylight Time).  Unfathomable Fathoms (who by an administrative mix-up are called “Placeholder1” in the rankings), comprising Itamar Amith, Glen Robertson and Danver Braganza, solved sixteen problems and finished 15th in the world.
