On the 18th of July 2014, the University of Auckland’s IEEE Student Branch hosted the annual IEEE Practice Interviews. The Practice Interviews are a great opportunity for IEEE Student Branch members to receive industry advice in regards to their interview performance and CV while making some great professional connections.
Set in the stylish business building of the university, this year’s event saw over 20 interviewers and more than 40 students attend. The interviewers came from a variety of engineering companies, specialising in fields from telecommunications to electronics to consultation.
Each student was given the opportunity to meet with a selection of companies of their choosing, and had a 15 minute mock interview followed by a 5 minute feedback session, where the students had a chance to receive some great advice in regards to their interview performance and CV. At the conclusion of the interviews, both interviewers and students were invited to a networking event where the students were encouraged to talk to the companies and further their networking skills.
This event, once again, proved a great success. The students walked away with constructive feedback, and the companies with a feel for the ‘talent pool’. Some students even scored real interviews with their companies!
